Reflective blog!! Shutdown-We're back World!

So on Wednesday (October 16, 2013) night Congress finally reopened the United States Government, by reaching a consensus on the budget and passing one.  They also somehow, as though it was a miracle, also came together and agreed to raise the debt ceiling, preventing the government from defaulting on its debt.  This is all very huge and big for several reasons, A) they have been at each others throats for 16 days now, unable to agree on anything.  B) considering that they were not only able to agree on a budget (big deal for them you know) but also able to agree to raise the debt ceiling, on the same night!  Thats a pretty big deal for this congress.  Also with the government reopening, this means hundreds of thousands of U.S. government employees can go back to work and get paid!  The stock market has reacted well and is currently doing very well!  People can now go to the national park, museums, and zoos!  Veterans are happy to get their benefits back and are no longer about to storm D.C.  Many groups are now calling off their protests of the government shutdown.  Overall people still aren't thrilled with our government, but they are happy that America is still here and things are back to normal and that they don't have to move to Europe.

Keep on reading! Stay strong!

  1. That's terrific! I am glad that the government came to a consensus on the budget and raising the debt ceiling. I am leaving on a trip today to a national park in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The trip still stands. Though it is a shame that the stock market is doing better the day after The Stock Market Game ended. o:-)

  2. It is great that Congress could finally agree. I am happy I can go to national parks now and go camping. I am also sad the the stock market boosted after our game had already ended.

  3. It is good that it reopened, but hopefully they can take this as a lesson. Preventing future shut downs.
