Reflective blog! Showdown Week!

This week has been a a very interesting and actually has been really good!  Due to showdown being this week pretty much all my teachers have been really nice about it all, so I haven't had a whole lot of homework, and we haven't done a whole lot in class.  Which is really, really nice!  So all in all it has been a pretty solid week, the stock market is going....its there.  The hype has died down some, but we are still very involved in it.  Nothing really crazy or awesome to report as of friday, so stay tuned till next week for maybe something or crazy to have happened!

Reflective blog-September 21, 2013!

This week has been quite an eventful week in econ.  We started the Stock Market game, which I will go into detail on shortly.  We also were given a case study that is due next week, on health care reform.  We learned all about the governments involvement in our economy, and the pros and cons of that.  Econ thus far has actually been a pretty fun and entertaining class, and seems to be continuing as such.  Now back to this stock market game.  This is a very interesting game we are playing, and although I could write a lot more on it, its 1am right now, so I'll just explain the game and how it works, and why its interesting.  This is a game online, where we sign up and join a session (in this case our classes session or "game"), then we are given fake money to buy fake stocks online.  The cool thing about all this is that the stock market in the game actually is the real stock market!  The game is about 10-20 min behind the actual market.  We are just buying fake stock and all, so our buys don't affect the market, but its really cool cause it actually is what the market is doing.  Is Apple stock is going up, then the Apple stick in the game goes up!  We are all as a class also competing to see who will have the most net worth.  The game is constantly ranked, everyone is ranked by their current net worth.  And on October 17 (OR 16..??) The game ends, and whoever has the greatest net worth wins!  So this should all be quite interesting and fun!

Reflective blog #2

This week in econ we have learned many of things.  It was the third week of school, so everyone is just getting into the flow of things, and everyone appears to be settling in nicely.  We have learned a lot in econ this week, we even had our first test....   It wasn't too bad, everyone appeared to have done quite well on it.  We began to learn about the three different types of economies, and what nations represent them, and have them.  We learned about Karl Marx and all of his ideas, and concepts, and philosophies on economics.  I personally find Karl Marx to be a very interesting person.  He has some very interesting views on the world and society and most, if not all, of his ideas and philosophies is still applicable today.  He also single handily without really setting out to exactly, impacted the lives of million is not billions.  He has had a huge impact on our world today and continues to have impacts on people everyday.  He gave rise to one the largest and probably most influential communist nation, former Soviet Russia.  Even today people are still learning about him and what he thought.  In itself its amazing how interesting and almost befuddling, how close, and dear we can hold someones thoughts.  But Karl Marx seems like a very interesting character.  I look forward to learning a bit more about him and his impact on the worlds economic atmosphere.
