We're almost there! -Reflective post!!!

Well this week has gone by pretty fast in my book.  Its been a pretty good one though, at least for me.  Econ is going well and I found out I have an 87 in agl 2!! Super happy about that one.   But back to econ, its goin.  The supreme admin is sick, she probably caught some virus...who knows.  But we are learning more about investments and banking and everything we need to know about it all.  We are just learning all the basics to survive on our own, and know stuff so we don't look stupid later on.  Mainly this week we have learned about personal banking, and the different account, and the pros and cons of them.  We also on thursday learned about different types of insurance, which is also helpful to know a little about.  All together its good, econ is always fun and enjoyable.  But stay tuned till next time for more exciting econ adventures!

Thanks

Its December!! Reflective blog!!!!

Alright so its now December, crazy right?  Anyways recently in econ we have now moved into personal finance.   We now have the Weserville currency, and more recently we have banking, bank cards, check, statements, bills, paychecks, everything money.  This has been quite interesting, and for some quite eye opening.  We have learned how to balance a checkbook, and how to keep a check register.  Yesterday we had to buy cell phones, and pick out plans.  This again for many including myself was eye opening.  I new smart phones were expensive, but their full retail price is a different story.  Most smart phones full retail price is at least $450 or more.  This is what I didn't see coming.  I did learn though that although TMobile is the best deal, but it has the worst coverage.  Verizon has the best coverage but is the most the expensive and the most contract locking in and binding.  So all in all its been a good week and econ continues to be interesting and engaging and fun as always!

Weekly blog! Its Reflective!

This week has been pretty good!  Seems like it has gone by pretty fast.  My birthday was this thursday, I turned 17!  It was a great birthday!  In econ this week though we have started to transition from economics to personal finance.  We are currently learning about currency, how money works, how its made, and just different things about it.  Weserville now has a currency!  All the great people of Weserville have been given some money and everyone will be issued their paychecks on Friday.  Everything has value now, if I want to eat, I have to pay, if I want to leave I have to pay.  I don't know how much I'll like this, but thus far I do, and it does seem quite interesting.  I look forward to seeing how this all plays out.  The Supreme Admin has also given us a challenge that is due Monday, where she has given us a paper clip which we have to trade for something else, and keep that going and see how good of an end product you can end up with.  Then on Monday we will all gather and see who got the best final trade!

Till the next blog

Reflective Blog!!! Weserville!!!

This week has been an interesting week for me, I have been tried all week, and can't win with homework.  All I want to do is just sleep....zzzzzz   In econ, I returned to discover the absolute horror that awaited me.  For I missed the epic hugely important, life transforming debate on Friday due to other previously committed too engagements.   But back to the point here, I missed the debate, and the debate ended in the town voting against building a Wal-Mart.  This will end poorly for the town of Weserville.  Weserville has a very small economy, and would do nothing but benefit from the Wal-Mart.  It remains to see how Weserville will go on to continue to survive with such a small economy.  Hopefully Weserville will survive and succeed in the future, that is my prayer for it.  Until the next post!  Dont die!

Reflective blog!!! Town hall!

So this week has been pretty good, we just got back from what seemed to be a pretty short weekend after our midterms.  They were pretty tough.  It was nice to have a weekend without homework for once.  But this week we came back to econ, and we were told that the infamous and great Walmart wants to build a store in our Weserville!  Yes this is a very big deal!  So therefore the infamous and also famous Supreme Admin has directed our econ class to divide into groups of pro and anti Wally World.  We are having a town hall meeting today (Friday November 2), and it is there that we will decide whether or not Wally World will come to Weserville....  There will also be a Wally World representaive at the meeting to console the towns people and help push for Walmart to be Built.  So stay tuned and listen in for the answer.  Will Wally World succeed and come to town? Or will they fail and be run out of town, not to be seen again?

Reflective blog!! Shutdown-We're back World!

So on Wednesday (October 16, 2013) night Congress finally reopened the United States Government, by reaching a consensus on the budget and passing one.  They also somehow, as though it was a miracle, also came together and agreed to raise the debt ceiling, preventing the government from defaulting on its debt.  This is all very huge and big for several reasons, A) they have been at each others throats for 16 days now, unable to agree on anything.  B) considering that they were not only able to agree on a budget (big deal for them you know) but also able to agree to raise the debt ceiling, on the same night!  Thats a pretty big deal for this congress.  Also with the government reopening, this means hundreds of thousands of U.S. government employees can go back to work and get paid!  The stock market has reacted well and is currently doing very well!  People can now go to the national park, museums, and zoos!  Veterans are happy to get their benefits back and are no longer about to storm D.C.  Many groups are now calling off their protests of the government shutdown.  Overall people still aren't thrilled with our government, but they are happy that America is still here and things are back to normal and that they don't have to move to Europe.

Keep on reading! Stay strong!

Reflective blog! Has the shutdown effected us?

Now I'm sure you are all wondering how the government shutdown has effected the great town and people of Weserville.  Well I'll tell you.  We are fine.  It has had zero impact on us here.  We got hit by a tornado this week and FEMA still came to our aid!  So yes the government shutdown, despite however bad it may be else where has had zero impact on Weserville and its inhabitants.

Till next time people of the interwebs!

Government shutdown

Currently the United States government is shutdown.  It has been shutdown now for 4 days, and it doesn't really seem like it going to stop anytime soon.  The reason for the shutdown, is because of Congresses inability to come to an agreement, and pass a federal budget for the now current physical year.  Thus far the shutdown seems to having a seemingly somewhat small impact on the U.S.  Although 100's of thousands of Government civilian employees have been furloughed, and things like the commissary, and exchange have been shutdown for military and there families, the average American hasn't seen a huge impact yet.  It remains to see how long this will go on, and how big of an impact it will have on the U.S.
Till next time good readers!

Reflective blog! Showdown Week!

This week has been a a very interesting and actually has been really good!  Due to showdown being this week pretty much all my teachers have been really nice about it all, so I haven't had a whole lot of homework, and we haven't done a whole lot in class.  Which is really, really nice!  So all in all it has been a pretty solid week, the stock market is going....its there.  The hype has died down some, but we are still very involved in it.  Nothing really crazy or awesome to report as of friday, so stay tuned till next week for maybe something or crazy to have happened!

Reflective blog-September 21, 2013!

This week has been quite an eventful week in econ.  We started the Stock Market game, which I will go into detail on shortly.  We also were given a case study that is due next week, on health care reform.  We learned all about the governments involvement in our economy, and the pros and cons of that.  Econ thus far has actually been a pretty fun and entertaining class, and seems to be continuing as such.  Now back to this stock market game.  This is a very interesting game we are playing, and although I could write a lot more on it, its 1am right now, so I'll just explain the game and how it works, and why its interesting.  This is a game online, where we sign up and join a session (in this case our classes session or "game"), then we are given fake money to buy fake stocks online.  The cool thing about all this is that the stock market in the game actually is the real stock market!  The game is about 10-20 min behind the actual market.  We are just buying fake stock and all, so our buys don't affect the market, but its really cool cause it actually is what the market is doing.  Is Apple stock is going up, then the Apple stick in the game goes up!  We are all as a class also competing to see who will have the most net worth.  The game is constantly ranked, everyone is ranked by their current net worth.  And on October 17 (OR 16..??) The game ends, and whoever has the greatest net worth wins!  So this should all be quite interesting and fun!

Reflective blog #2

This week in econ we have learned many of things.  It was the third week of school, so everyone is just getting into the flow of things, and everyone appears to be settling in nicely.  We have learned a lot in econ this week, we even had our first test....   It wasn't too bad, everyone appeared to have done quite well on it.  We began to learn about the three different types of economies, and what nations represent them, and have them.  We learned about Karl Marx and all of his ideas, and concepts, and philosophies on economics.  I personally find Karl Marx to be a very interesting person.  He has some very interesting views on the world and society and most, if not all, of his ideas and philosophies is still applicable today.  He also single handily without really setting out to exactly, impacted the lives of million is not billions.  He has had a huge impact on our world today and continues to have impacts on people everyday.  He gave rise to one the largest and probably most influential communist nation, former Soviet Russia.  Even today people are still learning about him and what he thought.  In itself its amazing how interesting and almost befuddling, how close, and dear we can hold someones thoughts.  But Karl Marx seems like a very interesting character.  I look forward to learning a bit more about him and his impact on the worlds economic atmosphere.

Week 1-Things to come...

So this week was the first week of school!  Kind of scary right?  Well eh its school, and some things are new and some different, and yet some still are the exact same.  But in econ class this week, we got settled in and are starting to settle into the rhyme of the class.  At first we just went of the basics on the first day, then we learned some stuff the next day.  An interesting thing that happened was for econ we are all "part" of and "live" in Weeserville.  We all got jobs ad personas and we even had an election picking the mayor and vice mayor and all those cool people.  I myself was elected Vice mayor, with Mitch as Mayor.  I think this whole "Weeserville experiment", as it is known by, should be quite interesting.  I personally at this point am a fan of it.  We already are making decisions and discussing what to do with 10 million dollars and about 80-100 acres of Weeserville.  It is an interesting way to study economics and decision making, and how a town actually works and stuff.  It over all in my opinion just seems to be a very good, new, and interesting approach to teaching economics in an interactive way.  Something that engages everyone, something people can be part of and actually understand that concepts.  So I look forward to this and where it will go.
